The Level 2 Award in Principles of Manual Handling (RQF) is a regulated and nationally recognised qualification, designed to cover the basic principles of manual handling.

This theory based qualification is ideal for all employees as it provides candidates with an awareness of safe manual handling practices and the risks of unsafe manual handling.

With subjects covered in just half a day, this course is an ideal way to reduce the risk of workplace manual handling injuries, whilst minimising disruption to your organisation’s day to day activities!

Who is it designed for?

The Level 2 Award in Principles of Manual Handling (RQF) qualification has been specifically designed for all employees to help raise their awareness of the risks associated with unsafe manual handling practices. It is also ideal for those who might have to carry out manual handling as part of their job such as handling deliveries, parcels and boxes.

The Syllabus Includes:

1. Common manual handling injuries
2. Manual handling laws
3. Responsibilities of employers and employees
4. Risk assessments
5. Safe movement principles associated with manual handling, including the body’s:
   1. Musculoskeletal system
   2. Centre of gravity
   3. Lever system
6. Theory of safe manual handling principles, including:
   1. Preparing for a lift
   2. Solo lifting, carrying and lowering an object
   3. Team manual handling
7. Manual handling equipment:
   1. Types of manual handling aids and equipment
   2. Maintenance and requirements for testing

Assessment

1 x Theory assessment (Multiple Choice Question Paper) and continuous formative assessment conducted throughout the course. Refresher training recommended every 3 years

Refresher Training

It is recommended that you undertake this qualification every three years in order to comply with legal and statutory requirements.


Please note that this qualification does not include practical sessions. Those requiring practical training should undertake the Level 2 Award in Safe Moving and Handling (RQF).
