Assessing Vocational Achievement

Level 3 Certificate (RQF)

Assessing Vocational Achievement (RQF)

Throughout the qualification Learners will build an in-depth knowledge of assessing, covering key topics including: principles and practices of assessment, types of assessment methods, the importance of quality assurance in assessment processes and more.

This regulated and nationally recognised qualification allows Learners to develop the knowledge, understanding and skills to effectively perform the role of an Assessor in a wide range of contexts.

Who is it intended for?

The Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (RQF) has been specifically designed for those who need to:

  • Assess occupational competence in the work environment

  • Assess vocational skills, knowledge and understanding outside the work environment i.e. training setting

Transferable to any sector that the Learner has occupational competence in, this qualification provides a national benchmark for best practice in assessing.

Successful Learners will leave with the skills required to assess competency based qualifications such as NVQs as well as vocational qualifications such as first aid.

The units covered are:

  1. Understanding the principles and practices of assessment
  2. Assess occupational competence in the work environment
  3. Assess vocational skills, knowledge and understanding

Entry requirements

Trainee assessors must be at least 19 years old on the first day of the training.

Trainee assessors must have access to learners completing vocational qualifications in order to generate the evidence required to complete this qualification.

There are no other formal entry requirements but to benefit from the learning we advise that Trainee assessors have a minimum of Level 2 in literacy and numeracy or equivalent.

3 x Learner Workbooks (includes theory and practical assessments).

Successful Learners will receive a QA Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (RQF) certificate.

Requalification requirements

It is not a requirement for Trainee assessors to renew this qualification however we recommend they keep up to date with current practice in assessment through regular participation in continuing professional development (CPD).

The Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (RQF) may support progression with training into the area of internal quality assurance, an example qualification would be the Level 4 Award in the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice (RQF), which we can offer support you with as well.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

RPL is a process for recognising learning from previous training, qualifications or experience to avoid duplication of learning. It considers whether a Trainee assessor can demonstrate and prove that they meet the assessment requirements for a unit through knowledge, understanding or skills they already possess and do not need to develop through a course of learning.

RPL evidence must be: valid, reliable, authentic, current, sufficient.

If you believe that you may have RPL, then please let us know prior to the course, and we will consider whether it meets the requirements. It is important that we carefully consider RPL to ensure we do not disadvantage a Trainee assessor. If sufficient understanding of a subject is in doubt training must take place.

RPL must be current, i.e. within 3 years and should only be used as rationale to avoid unnecessary duplication. Evidence of prior training submitted for RPL consideration must be authenticated by us; a certificate is not valid without referenced learning outcomes or evidence from the original training provider.
